Sinner wins the 2024 Australian Open against Medvedev: Jannik's new ATP ranking
Sinner won the 2024 Australian Open by beating Daniil Medvedev in a legendary final (comeback from 2-0) and after defeating even his majesty Novak Djokovic in the semi-final. How does the ATP ranking change after the triumph of the 22-year-old Italian tennis player? Jannik, despite winning the first Slam of the year, fails to gain positions and remains number 4 in the world. However, the gap on the 3 rivals preceding him has narrowed a lot.
Novak Djokovic in fact lost 1200 lost points (a year ago he triumphed in the Happy Slam against Stefano Tsitsipas in the final): the Serbian champion remains in first place in the rankings but drops below 10,000 points and ranks at 9,855 points. The number 2 in the ATP ranking is still the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz (eliminated in the quarter-finals by Alexander Zverev): the Murcian born in 2003 still gained ground against Djoker, rising to 9255, +400 points).
Sinner king of Australia, Roberta Vinci: “I'll explain how he defeated Medvedev.
Djokovic? Today Jannik is number 1. And he reminds me … “. The interview
The 3rd remains the Russian Daniil Medvedev, defeated by Sinner, but with a loot of 8765 (he gained 1210 compared to the day before the tournament), ahead of Jannik who, as mentioned, does not climb the step, remains 4th but reaches quota 8310 (+1820 given that in 2023 he stopped in the round of 16, eliminated by Tsitsipas).
The top-5 sees the Russian Andrey Rublev (defeated in the quarter-finals by Jannik Sinner) just ahead of the Australian Open semi-finalist, Alexander Zverev (5050 vs. 5030).
Among the top 10 in the world then Holger Rune (the Danish disappointment of the tournament, out in the second round), Hubert Hurkacz (defeated in the quarter-finals by Daniil Medvedev), Taylor Fritz (+3 places gained after this year's quarter-finals which saw him surrender to Djokovic) and Stefanos Tsitsipas (who loses three positions after being eliminated in the round of 16 by Fritz).
