Silvia Vásquez- Washingthe Peruvian who found in the mountains the path of healing to overcome the sexual violence she suffered as a child, is one of the protagonists of ‘Gutsy’, (chapter 5) the Apple TV + series hosted by Hillary and Chelsea Clinton, where they go on adventures with some of the bravest women in the world.
Living in the United States for years, in 2016 Silvia became the first woman to climb Mount Everest. She is an LGBT activist, she is currently preparing her new book and her first autobiographical film that would star Selena Gomez.
— How was working alongside Hillary and Chelsea Clinton?
— When I got this opportunity, I thought it was an April Fools’ Day joke, because I’ve seen the impact both have. on an international level. They are two women who have worked very hard in their lives and what they do has not always been seen with good eyes, they have suffered attacks.
– How was behind the camera?
— What fills me most is the opportunity to convince someone not to be afraid. At first, you can see the doubts that Chelsea has to climb, but if you think about it, fear is a temporary thing that we can not use to stagnate, but to overcome and overcome ourselves. That’s what I liked about Chelsea who did it step by step. It is what we must apply to the level of our own life.
— How do you feel about being considered a heroine of your own story?
— The fact of being chosen is one of the greatest honors I’m having in my life. What I like about ‘Gutsy’ is that it’s not just an individual story but it adds the stories of all these women, it’s like a fabric that has been created. That’s the kind of series I wish I could have watched when I was in high school. This is what is moving in Iran, for example, the role of young women who have to continue to overcome everything, fighting in many countries not to be told what to do. It is about the empowerment that we can give them. It’s a giant awakening and this series adds to that awakening.
— How much do you think the fight against sexual violence has advanced and what is missing to help more victims?
— We must continue to tell more stories, that is the way to help inspire other people, continue to open our voices and create societies that are more aware. We are doing it, but it is an up and down. It is being able to show that we are not alone, that there are support channels and organizations. Sometimes, there are people who have kept it well hidden, and hearing these stories is inspirational for them.
– What was the project of the film where Selena Gomez was going to represent you and your new book?
My book is ready to come out in April. And we have already received the first part of the movie script. I have already read it and we are making the adjustments. God and the little virgin want us to be filming next year.
