Deputy was sentenced to pay a fine of BRL 405,000 for failing to comply with court decision
the deputy Daniel Silveira (PTB-RJ) had BRL 18,662.45 blocked in 3 banking institutions by determination of the STF (Supreme Federal Court). The money will be used to pay the R$ 405 thousand owed by the congressman in fines for non-compliance with a court decision, including the use of an electronic anklet.
In response to the STF, Banco do Brasil reported that it blocked R$7,299 from the deputy’s salary account. Moraes had determined to the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), to block 25% of the congressman’s salary until the fine is complied with. The bank BTG told the court that it blocked BRL 10,802 in low-liquidity assets – a long-term investment fund.
Bradesco froze R$561.45 in 3 Silveira accounts. In compliance with the court’s determination, the bank communicated that the deputy has 3 accounts at the bank: two in Petrópolis, in the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro; and one in Realengo, on the west side of the state capital. The R$ 561.45 was in one of the accounts in Petrópolis. The others have zero balance.
TRAFFIC TICKET
On Tuesday (May 3), Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF, decided to fine Silveira R$ 405,000 for failing to comply with a court decision.
At the end of March, Moraes ordered the deputy to wear an electronic anklet and prohibited the politician from giving interviews and having contact with others investigated in Supreme Court inquiries.
The minister set a fine of R$ 15,000 per day of non-compliance. According to the Department of Penitentiary Administration of the Federal District, the anklet has been turned off since April 17. Silveira also gave interviews.
The minister officiated the Central Bank for all Silveira’s accounts to be blocked. He also ordered the Chamber to adopt the necessary measures so that there is a direct discount on the deputy’s salary. Finally, he ordered the congressman to change the electronic anklet within 24 hours.
PARDON
Silveira was sentenced on April 20 by the Supreme Court to 8 years and 9 months in prison for trying to prevent the free exercise of powers and verbally assaulting members of the Court.
The next day, the politician received the constitutional grace of the president Jair Bolsonaro (PL). The STF’s understanding is that the pardon given by Bolsonaro to Silveira does not cancel out compliance with restrictive measures, such as the one that determines the use of anklets.
