Almost everything about it Silent Hill 2 Remake it is seen either as an absolute masterpiece or is greeted with a certain skepticism. Like everything, the truth lies in the middle, at least in our opinion. We looked at the new gameplay trailer, and it is possible to notice how there is really a sort of separation between the phases that make up the gameplay of this remake, which the Polish team is working on Bloober Team.
A sigh of relief
It’s been over a year since reveal trailer Of Silent Hill 2 Remake, and this is where a lot of the rumors and speculation about the game started. Now two new clips dedicated to the survival horror in development by Bloober Team have finally arrived, a very short one of which announced the long-awaited release dateand the other where you can see the gameplay and some cutscenes that really took your breath away.
In fact we see an almost extreme level of detail, especially in the settings, where it is possible to distinguish the various materials that surround us, and even the open areas manage to give a sense of restlessness, as you would expect from the development studio and, above all, from a Silent Hill. Furthermore, the reconstruction of the city shrouded in fog is almost chilling because of how incredible it is. Of course, there are still some small differences that are presented quickly, but as far as we’re concerned they won’t distort too much the work created by the minds of Team Silent.
Some scenes shown in the new trailer are 1:1 those of the original, but “simply” reconstructed with a new dubbing (and thank goodness for some characters, ed.) and a new graphics engine: Unreal Engine 5.
It is possible to notice the care and desire to reconstruct the original Silent Hill 2 especially in the scenes where Laura, the little girl, is present. Especially in those scenes it is also possible to see how Bloober Team wanted to make the protagonist, Jamesa little more instinctive and who acts in protection of the little girl who meets Mary, the protagonist’s wife who contacts him and starts everything.
They can also be seen Maria and Angelaand if the first has undergone a few changes to the model, such as the positioning of the tattoo and the change of clothing, the second has remained almost the same.
Wooden blows, not wood blows
The only thing that really made us turn up one’s nose while we were watching the trailer for Silent Hill 2 Remake is the hand-to-hand combat (or melee). In fact it is possible to notice that the animations are connected to each other in an unrealistic way, and indeed the animations look very wooden (although with the benefit of the doubt, since until we have the pad in hand we can’t know for sure). SI note, however, that Bloober Team tried to add arcade elements to the title, because there is a scene where you see James with the firearm in his hand running towards the enemy, and when he uses melee he takes the iron staff almost ” magically”. In a certain sense it is something useful, since by removing this extra animation which is used “only for realism” you have more reactivity. So it’s something not too bad, but what’s the price? Immersiveness.

Immersion which is instead pushed to the highest levels during the exploration phases – but there was little doubt about this – considering that Bloober Team has truly created some pearls with Layers of Fear, Observer and the least appreciated The Medium. When the clip moves us inside Brookhaven Hospital, we can see the attention to detail in the interior, some plays of light, and above all fearwhich makes us move within an unknown space where it is possible to encounter enemies. These appear to be also quite aggressivewhich doesn’t go very well with a wooden melee gameplay, especially if we remember that Silent Hill 2 Remake is a survival horror, where therefore every shot fired counts (even if in the original there were really a lot of bullets, ed.). Furthermore, it must be underlined that Bloober Team has never created a combat system, so we can say that it is “normal” that it is a bit immature, even if it’s not an excuse given the importance of the project they have in their hands.
In the portions of the video where we were outdoors, it is truly impressive to see the rendering of the fog, so thick that you can’t see through it. So imagining seeing an enemy appear from there, just as they did more than twenty years ago, is scary.
In conclusion we can do nothing but express a little worried regarding the gameplay of this remake, but as already said earlier, only once it is released will we be able to really have our say. All you have to do is wait until October 8, 2024 to be able to relive or live for the first time an experience that goes beyond the shooting and beyond exploration, as it will enter our minds and make us go further and further down, towards the “judgment”.
