The fire that occurred aboard the Felicity Ace cargo ship could have damaged up to 4,000 Volkswagen Group brand vehicles. Lamborghini seems to be among the brands most concerned about the consequences that the flames could have generated: Andrea Baldi, the CEO of the US division of the house of Toro, has made it known that he does not yet know the extent of the damage caused and that he cannot actually know them until when the ship can’t be brought back to port, but he also admitted that one of his biggest concerns is represented by the Aventador which are on board.
The Aventador is in fact completely sold-out and had to be gradually withdrawn from production, to be replaced by a new model. This means that if the supercar specimens aboard the ship were damaged or worse still destroyed, Lamborghini should return to hear from its suppliers if all lost units can be rebuilt. “At the moment we do not know the extent of the problem, we will have to address it when it arises – commented Baldi – The Aventador is sold-out, so on 563 units there is always the possibility that some cancellation may allow it to be replaced, but for the moment I prefer to hope that at least the few examples of the supercars on the ship are safe“.
A case that remembers what in 2019 it hit Porsche, forced to produce four extra examples of the 911 GT2 RS for its Brazilian customers after the merchant ship Grande America sank off the French coast. The comparison holds up, yet for Lamborghini this operation could be much more complicated: the Aventador is a completely independent model that does not inherit components from other models of the del Toro brand, unlike the Porsche 911 GT2 RS which shared some parts with the other 911s. Regardless of how Lamborghini behaves, however, delays are expected that could last even more than six months. “We are still waiting to receive official information – concluded Baldi – But we have informed our dealers, and they have informed our customers, why whatever happens, in any case, there will be a delay. We are prepared for the worst “.
