The Shenmue Dojo website published an interview with Yu Suzuki also concerning Shenmue 4of which it emerged that the project is still in the design phasewith Ys Net having need a partner in order to continue development.
In short, similar to what happened with Shenmue 3, the project of the fourth chapter will have to rely on other partners in order to be realized: with the third chapter there was a need for a Kickstarter campaign, Sony marketing (at least partially) and finally of the intervention of publisher Deep Silver to finally arrive on the market.
Something similar could also be necessary for Shenmue 4, as clearly reported by Suzuki in the interview: a partner is needed to be able to carry on the development, but the problem is that the global situation of the industry is not at all positive and it may be difficult to find financiers for the project.
Tick the idea of Shenmue 1 and 2 in Unreal Engine 5
Apparently, Deep Silver does not seem to have come forward to repeat what it did with the third chapter: in this regard, Embracer had reported that sales of Shenmue 3 had been good, but without particular enthusiasm, which could indicate a lack of interest in financing the fourth chapter.
From a technical point of view, Suzuki explained, for example, that the motion capture for Shenmue 4 it should be more advanced than the one carried out previously, which is based mainly on magnetic technology, with an almost obligatory transition to optical detection in this case.
The idea would be to do some testing internally and then perhaps outsource the bulk of the work, but there would be several things to be done at the forefront by the development team, in particular regarding the animations of the combat system.
Interestingly enough, Suzuki also reported that it would be fun to be able to develop the remake of Shenmue 1 and 2 in Unreal Engine 5but this too is currently only a hypothetical project, awaiting possible developments.
