Up to 17 educational centers in the Region participate in international studies to assess the competence of students in mathematics and science, digital competence and social and emotional competences. According to sources from the regional Executive, these were chosen randomly as part of the national sample.
The international study of trends in mathematics and science is promoted by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA). Evaluates the performance in mathematics and sciences of students in the fourth year of Primary Education. The tests will be carried out between May 3 and June 9 in eight educational centers.
The international study on digital competence, for its part, is promoted by the IEA to assess the digital competence of second-year ESO students. In its current edition, six educational centers will participate, between April 11 and May 19. This study is carried out every five years to find out to what extent students are prepared to study, work and live in a digital world.
The study on social and emotional competences is organized by the OECD. Analyzes the socio-emotional skills developed by 15-year-old students, who are in the fourth year of ESO, mostly. The report will be carried out during the month of March in three educational centers and aims to offer data and comparative analysis on the factors in the environment of the students that favor or hinder their development.

The general director of Human Resources, Educational Planning and Evaluation, María del Carmen Balsas, recalled that “educational centers in the Region have participated in previous years in other international studies, such as the one organized by IEA on reading comprehension, which evaluated students fourth year of Primary Education in six centers in the Region in 2021; and the Program for International Student Assessment, PISA, in which 52 centers participated last year and whose next edition is scheduled for 2025.
All the data collected in these studies, promoted by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, through the National Institute for Educational Evaluation (INEE), and coordinated with the Ministry, are strictly confidential.
