Los Mochis, Sinaloa.- Within the framework of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, this Friday the Ahome Women’s Secretariat recognized the students Marcela Aguirre Valdez and María Fernanda Montoya López for their outstanding participation in the 2022 Mexican Women’s Mathematics Olympiadwhere they won the gold medal.
In said event, which took place last week, the Delegation that represented Sinaloa obtained, in global qualification, the third national place, which is a great result for the state in this first women’s Olympics.
The teacher Magdalena Rocha Peña, secretary of the Women, reported that These young women will continue with consultancies in order to integrate the Selection that will represent Mexico in the European Women’s Olympiad.
“The Women’s Secretariat reiterates its commitment to the girls and young people of the municipality to help them have better conditions in learning spaces, and with that to destroy stereotypes that discriminate against and belittle women in the academic field,” said Rocha Peña. .
She stressed that today they are celebrating because of the great performance that Marcela Aguirre and María Fernanda Montoya have had, and she wants more girls to be inspired by the work of these students so that they can be an example to follow.
She added that the Secretariat under her charge will continue to support the students, so that next March, in the activities that are scheduled, they are invited to be part of a network of girls and women of science.
