With the Russian attacks on Ukraine, Musk sent 50 antennas so that various towns have satellite internet connection and announced a second load of antennas.
In the midst of the war that Ukraine is experiencing, one of the main fears in terms of connectivity is that Russia has bombed communications infrastructure in that nation, which, in different places, has caused the Internet connection to be cut.
In this context, Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla, sent a set of antennas so that the country can connect to its ‘Starlink’ satellite internet service.
Samir Estefan, an expert in Technology, explains that “it is a broadband internet system, let’s say high speeds, through a network of satellites that the company has launched into space, to which the antennas are connected and from there it works the Internet”.
Elon Musk is also the founder of the SpaceX space company and this satellite internet system was created to provide a broadband connection, that is, high speed, generated with antennas that connect to satellites, mainly to provide internet to rural areas where it is difficult to guarantee a traditional connection.
“The problem with high-speed internet in the world is that you can take it today to most of the big urban centers, but in remote places, in rural places, it is very expensive to take internet. These are some small satellites, some satellites that are in the low orbit of the planet and, according to what we have seen technically from the company, the information goes down and up at speeds that can be classified as broadband for a person who is in remote places”, explains Estefan.
The ‘Starlink’ service is not yet available worldwide, but the company has already launched more than 2,000 satellites and has permission to place 12,000 in low Earth orbit. However, it has already requested permission from the authorities so that there are 30,000 in total and a global connection is guaranteed.
With the Russian attacks on Ukraine, Musk sent 50 antennas so that various towns have satellite internet connection and announced a second load of antennas.
“Ukraine has been left without internet and many of the accesses they had, which came from Russia, were blocked, so elon musk’s offer was “we are going to send them some antennas so they can put them in different cities and connect people to to know what is happening, to be informed, to be able to communicate with each other and it has started to work”, affirms Estefan while indicating that “there are clearly some risks associated with this and that is that the Russian government could know where the antennas are, then Elon Musk released a statement asking to leave the antennas not very visible because seeing the antennas there means that there is a large population group and it could become a military target.
