The Dutch Grand Prix ended disappointingly, with both cars out of the points, the Haas will try to turn the page in the last of the three consecutive race weekends in Monza, home of the Italian Grand Prix. A circuit that has made the figure of Michael Schumacher legendary for Ferrari fans, and which will soon welcome the latter’s son for the sixteenth round of the world championship.
A track, however, that does not seem to provide good indications to the US team from a technical point of view, just as remarked by the German driver, who still reserved positive considerations on the ‘old school’ tracks: “It will be a difficult weekend – admitted number 47 – but on the other hand there are those types of tracks where perhaps our car does not work as we would like, but it is probably a small number of tracks compared to the number of tracks that fit our set-up. Besides, I would say that there is a little more character in these types of paths compared to the more recent ones, which are very flat, long and with large stretches of track. At the moment we are still used to seeing old school tracks, but I think we are moving into a period where we will become more and more used to having large escape areas ”.
A concept very similar to that expressed by your teammate Kevin Magnussenalso enchanted by the magic of a racetrack like the one in Brianza, which this year celebrates its centenary: “As far as I’m concerned – he added – Monza is a fantastic race, definitely a favorite. The atmosphere, the track, the history of the place: it’s a special feeling to race there. It is also a very race-friendly track, with many straights and a unique layout. I think in F1 it’s okay to have a mix of old and new, but I tend to prefer old circuits, because they were built differently. Today the slopes are made very efficiently, smooth, flat and wide. When you arrive at a track like Zandvoort, Mugello, Monza or Suzuka, you really feel the difference and tend to be more excited. You can think of how it must have been at the time, and the old tracks we run on now have also been updated. At the time everything was different and the tracks that still exist still have some of that character ”.
