Schettino returns free, a role for him in the state archives
For Italy that will remain an indelible date 13 January 2012day of the sinking of the Costa Concordia, one of the biggest accidents in the history of the country. For that collision with the rocks, which cost his life to 32 people and the wounding of another 110 was sentenced to the commander Francesco Schettinoconsidered the main person responsible for the events of that dramatic night to the island of the Lily. Schettino, however – reads the Corriere della Sera – could soon get out of jail di Rebibbia, where he is serving a sentence a 16 years in prisonto work on the digitization of thousands of pages of processes including the one on Ustica massacre.
It was – continues the Corriere – the direction of the prison Roman, according to some rumors, to present the request. If accepted, Schettino could work for the state for archive digitally and make the greatest indestructible Italian debates. Material that will then be kept forever in the State Archives of Rome. The measure is legitimate because the former commander of Concordia has served half of the sentence (in addition to the almost six years spent in prison, as required by law, a bonus period is also added) and therefore has the right to alternative measures to detention.
