Sri Lanka’s pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai displayed for the first time, yesterday, the largest selection of rare sapphire masterpieces in the country known for its ancient past in the trade in precious stones and jewelry, which made some describe it as the “sapphire capital of the world”. The “Sapphire Day” exhibition included treasures of precious stones in the country, valued at more than $100 million, and all weighing more than 1,000 carats, among them the rare golden yellow sapphire, weighing more than 200 carats, with a value exceeding four and a half million dollars. To be one of the rarest, most precious cut golden yellow sapphires in the world.
The exhibition, which is organized by the Sri Lanka pavilion, was held with the participation of 11 prominent Sri Lankan businessmen in the field of gemstones and jewellery. During the “Sapphire Day”, they display 21 gem stones, and the collection includes some rare pieces of the most famous “blue sapphire” stones in the country.
