The São Paulo Court has ordered access to 15 websites linked to the operation of virtual gambling games to be blocked. According to the records, the public civil action was filed by the Association for the Defense of Games and Betting (Adeja), which claims that the defendants act as intermediaries in the financial flow of betting websites without a license or regulation in Brazil, receiving amounts from users and passing them on to the platforms. When contacted by the reporter, the companies mentioned have not yet commented.
“The 35th Civil Court of the Capital determined, in a preliminary decision, the blocking of access to 15 websites linked to virtual gambling, notifying the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) to take the necessary measures with the internet providers”, said the Court of Justice of São Paulo (TJSP) on Friday, the 6th. Also sought, Anatel did not comment.
“In his decision, Judge Gustavo Henrique Bretas Marzagão highlighted the notorious negative effects that slot machine games, hosted on clandestine and unauditable websites, have caused to the population,” said the TJSP. The judge cited people who lost all their assets in illegal bets.
“The facts described in the initial complaint and the documents that accompany it demonstrate the plausibility of the author’s allegations regarding the participation of the co-defendants in the damages suffered by the community, insofar as, as intermediaries in the financial flow, they ensure that the money paid by the user reaches the accounts of the owners of the betting sites”, stated Bretas.
According to the TJSP, the decision can be appealed. All companies involved were contacted by the reporter, but have not yet commented. The space remains open for comments.
