This morning, Club América announced through its official networks the dismissal of Santiago Solari and his coaching staff, after an embarrassing first half of the Clausura 2022 tournament.
The now ex-coach azulcrema led his last game in charge of Coapa this Sunday, March 1, where he could not beat the Gallos de Querétaro at the Azteca Stadium, achieving a 1-1 result.
In this campaign, the Eagles are in 17th place in the general table, since they have barely added 6 points out of a possible 24, the result of four losses, three draws and just one victory. A pretty poor figure for a club with the level and demand like America.
Santiago Solari arrived in Coapa on January 1, 2021 and led the azulcremas for 425 days. He directed 51 matches, with a general balance of 27 wins, 11 draws and 13 losses.
In his first two tournaments with América, the ‘Indiecito’ showed very positive numbers, qualifying for the league within the first four places on both occasions and breaking the record for points in a calendar year in short tournaments, but was eliminated both times in quarterfinals, in his first tournament for Pachuca and in the second for the UNAM Pumas (who humiliated the Eagles at the Azteca Stadium). These eliminations, added to the defeat of the azulcremas in the final of the 2021 Concachampions at the hands of Rayados de Monterrey began the debacle of his time at the head of those from Coapa.
In 2022 Solari was unable to lift the team from such heavy defeats, which has not won in the Azteca Stadium for 130 days, is penultimate in the general table and lost the trust of its players and the most demanding fans in Mexico.
America will announce an interim coaching staff in the coming days as they look for a new coach to occupy the hottest chair in Mexican soccer.
