Carlos Rodriguez (Ineos) won the last stage of the Return to the Basque Country, competed over 138 kilometers starting and finishing in Eibar, in which Juan Ayuso (UAE Emirates) was crowned champion of the test, while the best Colombian was Santiago Buitrago.
The penultimate climb was almost the final one. With 28 km to go before the finish, the first in the general classification launched their attack. Rodríguez was in charge of disrupting the leader's group, Mattias Skjelmose, but Buitrago stuck to the wheel.
I spend the day
Skjelmose went in search of Rodríguez, who was seconds ahead and caught up with him before crossing the first category mountain prize. They both went in search of Juan Ayuso, Esteban Chaves and Marc Solerwho were looking for the leader, Oscar Onley.
Buritrago stayed a bit on the descent and went to the wheel Maximilian Schachmannwho tried to reach the group of escapees, who were fighting for the podium of the competition.
16 km from the finish, Ayuso launched his attack and Rodríguez was the only one who reached him. Skjelmose tried to catch up, while Chaves couldn't keep up and stayed behind.
Santiago Buitrago, at that point in the race, lost a minute, as did Isaac del Toro, Bauke Mollema, Brandon McNulty and Sepp Kuss.
Chaves was the best at the finish line, crossing in ninth place, while Buitrago lost the option of entering the top 10 of the general classification.
