A quiet afternoon turned into tragedy when a 13-year-old boy, Ian Spendlove of Santa Clara, lost his life after being buried under a sand dune in Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Parka popular recreational site located on the border between Utah And Arizona. The accident took place last Saturday, and despite the rapid rescuedthe young man died the following day.
Ian was digging a tunnel in the sand when the unstable structure collapsed, burying him under about two meters of sand. A family member immediately called i rescuedand park rangers intervened promptly to free the lad. Once extractit was necessary to perform CPR before transporting him to the hospital St. George and subsequently to Primary Children’s Hospital of Salt Lake City, Where he was declared dead due to lack of brain activity.
