Sánchez affirms that the ‘Errejón case’ does not weaken the Government and reiterates his support for Yolanda Díaz

The PSOE, with its leader, Pedro Sánchez, at the helm, came out this Sunday in defense of the management that both Yolanda Díaz and Sumar are doing in the Errejón case, although at the same time it has pointed to a reformulation of the political space of the left of facing the next electoral cycle. In Oman, during the stopover of the visit to India scheduled for the beginning of the week, the President of the Government has defended the decisions taken by Yolanda Díaz and Sumar since the complaints of several women against Íñigo Errejón for sexist violence emerged.

In an informal conversation with the press, the PSOE leader stressed that Díaz never told him anything about the conduct of Sumar’s former parliamentary spokesperson, nor about his personal life. In her opinion, the second vice president and Minister of Labor, leader of Sumar until last summer, has acted as soon as she learned of the complaints, and that is what she values.

However, the situation, for Sánchez, is “painful and unpleasant”, and although he denies that the coalition government has been weakened by it, he has expressed doubts about the restructuring of the political space in which Sumar and Podemos find themselves.

The president has placed emphasis on the legislative trajectory made despite the current difficulty in maintaining the parliamentary majority that gave him the investiture. He has insisted, along these lines, that there will be a complete legislature and elections when it is time, in 2027. How the left represented by Sumar, Podemos, Izquierda Unida or Más Madrid will reach that electoral cycle, in his words. .

Comparison with the PP’s management of the Nevenka case

The PSOE, along the lines of Sánchez, is working to close ranks with Sumar to prevent the political effects of the Errejón case from being covered up as soon as possible. From Valladolid, the Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo, has stressed that Sumar “is doing his homework” in managing the Errejón case. He made these statements a day after the organization to which Yolanda Díaz belongs recognized that its internal systems for the prevention and detection of sexist violence failed and that the management of the case was “breaking the trust of many people.” The defense of the PSOE in this context involves coming out in defense of Sumar’s actions and contrasting this action with that of the PP in the Nevenka case.

Both the PP and Vox continue their offensive. The president of the popular party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has denounced the lack of “minimally ethical” explanations on the part of Sumar after the departure of Íñigo Errejón. In his opinion, there will be no dismissals. “Sánchez is not going to dismiss Yolanda Díaz for covering up for Errejón because he covered up for Ábalos.”

“The Government of Spain is today divided between two sectors, those who are suspected of having committed crimes and those who are suspected of covering up the crimes. And this is unbearable,” he stressed at a New Generations event in Madrid. Vox, from Fuenlabrada (Madrid), through its national spokesperson on Immigration and Security, Samuel Vázquez, maintains that to protect victims of sexist violence, its party does not want “purple dots or safe spaces in the bathrooms of nightclubs.” but “Police, Civil Guard and courts”.

The photo of Sánchez with Aldama

Before traveling to India, Sánchez also referred to a photo published in the newspaper The World in which he appears with Víctor Aldama, one of the defendants in the Koldo case. The president has said that it is one of the thousands that is done with people who attend party events; and has denied any conversation and meeting with the businessman. Alberto Núñez Feijóo had insisted this Sunday that the departure of the socialist leader is resignation.

To these criticisms, Sánchez has responded that “you don’t choose who you take a photo with, but you do choose who you go on vacation with,” in reference to the photos taken years ago of the PP leader, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, with the drug trafficker. Golden Martial.
