The boy, while talking with Francesca Cipriani, said he risked his life. Samy Youssef he almost drowned, and he recounted in detail the terror of that day.
I crossed the Mediterranean even without knowing how to swim. The crossing was very bad, I will always remember it, it lasted several days. I drank so much salt water.
The model fell overboard after a accident, the dinghy was in fact not used to carry so many people.
Did they push me? No, the boat overturned. The dinghy was for a maximum of five people and we were more than twenty on top. Calculate that I can’t swim and I took a really big risk.
Even his arrival in Italy was not at all easy, he spent a period in the family home and slowly managed to make a career in the world of fashion. Learning the language wasn’t easy either.
When I arrived in Sicily, the police took me to a foster home, but I only stayed there for one day. Time to go there and take a shower. What then the shower is a saying. Where I am from, I’ve never showered. There was only one pot. I didn’t know how to put hot or cold water on. My dream was to go to Rome, so I took a train. Every time a conductor found me without a ticket I had to get off. Nobody understood me because I only spoke Arabic.
