Double out for the Ferrari driver
Gray weekend for Ferrari in the Canadian Grand Prix, as well as the Montreal sky, which remained dark for almost the entire duration of the race. Both drivers of the Maranello team concluded their GP beforehand for different reasons: while Charles Leclerc brought the car back to the pits on lap 40 at the end of a colorless performance, as well as with engine problems, for Carlos Sainz the story was different.
Sainz’s mistake
In addition to having suffered a lack of grip and a general crisis in the competitiveness of the car which excluded him from the points zone for most of the race, the Spaniard also took the route to the pit lane at 54th lapin this case for a spin with subsequent contact with the innocent Alex Albon. Damage to the single-seater which therefore made it impossible for the #55 to remain on the track, due to a double retirement by Ferrari which had not occurred since the 2022 Azerbaijan GP.
Never competitive
An overall disappointing weekend for the ‘Red’ and for Sainz himself, who admitted the total lack of pace which will have to be evaluated by the team in the next few days: “Honestly today there wasn’t much pace – he explained to Sky Sport F1 – with the intermediates we hoped to go faster, but it’s also true that in no condition this weekend were we strong, and that’s something to analyse. Only at the end on the slicks did I start to go faster and take more risks, and in the end I made a mistake that didn’t allow me to finish the race. A weekend to analyze because at no point were we competitive. When you’re in the middle of the group you don’t feel like you’re faster because you’re in dirty air, there’s also the DRS train and in this condition I tried to do everything I could to recover, and that’s where I made the mistake. It’s a sign that when you push and don’t have confidence, mistakes happen, and this weekend was like that.”
