Glass half full or half empty?
After the double in Melbourne, the Ferrari she arrived at Suzuka with the hope of confirming its competitiveness on one of the most technical tracks on the calendar.
If Leclerc and Sainz showed a very encouraging pace in the race, the same did not happen in qualificationwhere the Spaniard finished in fourth place and the Monegasque in eighth.
Sainz sees the positive
In the 2023 Carlos Sainz he started from the sixth spot on the grid, with a time higher than 0″973 by Max Verstappen. In the 2024 the Spaniard will be fourth, with a lap time higher than 0″483 by the Dutch champion.
This is the analysis of the Ferrari driver: “We already knew that Suzuka would have been a Red Bull circuit. Last year they gave me a second of a lead and now it has been reduced to half. It means we've improved by half a second in six months: an excellent step forward”.
Sainz then continued, in the conversation with As: “Red Bull is still very ahead on circuits like this, a bit like in Bahrain. On rough asphalt they perform at their best. We are making progress, but on this type of track McLaren and Red Bull are beating us for now. Personally I worked on the set-up in Bahrain, finding things that are helping me in the fast corners.”
