Garda: cybercriminals often attack Russians in the first week after the holidays
Cybercriminals often attack Russians not only during the New Year holidays, but also after them. As Pavel Kuznetsov, director of strategic alliances and interaction with government bodies of the Garda group of companies, noted in an interview with Lenta.ru, this danger also affects employees of various companies.
He noted that during the New Year holidays, cybercriminals reasonably believe that people relax and become more vulnerable to various attacks, including phishing ones. “But the pressure does not subside even in the first days after the end of the holidays. There are not isolated cases where infection occurred during the analysis of letters by employees in the first week after going to work,” Kuznetsov warned.

He also noted that attackers traditionally prepare phishing campaigns during this period of the year. In them, potential victims are usually promised financial benefits. Such mailings may include offers of discounts, gifts, and other lures for potential victims.
He also emphasized that attackers can use neural networks to prepare texts, videos and audios in which they will masquerade as familiar mailing recipients. “Due to the fact that there are workarounds for using such technologies without payment, such attacks do not require significant investments from cybercriminals,” added Kuznetsov.
At the same time, in recent years, phishing attacks using instant messengers have become increasingly popular. But this, according to Kuznetsov, does not give Russians the opportunity to feel a little safer when working with email. It remains the most common method of communication on work issues, and therefore is actively exploited by cybercriminals.
Earlier, Russians were warned about a new scheme of deception on the Internet on behalf of supposedly FSB employees. Fraudsters began sending letters to company employees claiming that their clients’ personal data had allegedly been leaked.
