The Investigative Committee of Russia opened two criminal cases into the death and injury of civilians in the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR) as a result of massive shelling on Sunday, February 20. This was reported to Lente.ru in the press service of the department.
The investigation is being conducted under Article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Use in an armed conflict of means and methods prohibited by an international treaty of the Russian Federation”).
According to the investigation, on the night of February 20, Ukrainian soldiers fired at the area of the Skochinsky mine in Donetsk, as a result of which a 67-year-old local resident was wounded. As a result of the attack of the village of Pionerskoye in the LPR, two people were killed.
Earlier, on February 20, the chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia (TFR), Alexander Bastrykin, instructed to investigate the circumstances of the incident, to record evidence of the crimes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The aggravation of the situation in the Donbass occurred on February 17. The self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics and Ukraine accused each other of repeated ceasefire violations and shelling of settlements. The next day, the DPR and LPR announced a mass evacuation of the population to Russia.
