Russian attack Cooperation between universities in Russia will be suspended – no new projects will be launched

The ministry wants to support Ukrainian students and university staff in Finland.

University- and research cooperation with Russia will be suspended and no new projects will be started, says the Minister of Science and Culture Antti Kurvinen in a press release from the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Finnish higher education institutions are advised to refrain from all cooperation between higher education institutions and science with Russian partner organizations. Minister Kurvinen discussed the guidelines with university leaders on Wednesday.

“Our policies are in support of Ukraine, not against Russian students and researchers. You can continue to apply for a student or researcher in Finland, regardless of citizenship, ”says Kurvinen in the press release.

The processing of new initiatives related to administrative co-operation between Finland and Russia or Belarus will also be suspended.

Kurvisen According to Finland, Finland intends to support Ukraine and Ukrainians in the areas of higher education and research cooperation. The Ministry of Education and Culture is preparing measures with higher education institutions to support Ukrainian students, university staff and researchers, and to provide study and work opportunities for war escapees in Finland.

It is hoped that the universities will provide spiritual support for the anxiety caused by the war in Ukraine and inform students and staff about it. In particular, support is provided for Ukrainian students and staff.

Finland supports the European Commission’s decision to suspend co-operation with Russian and Belarusian partners in EU education and research programs.
