Russian Ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov accused Republican US Senator Rick Scott (from Florida) of calling for a clash of nuclear powers. The corresponding commentary of the diplomat was published on the page of the Russian diplomatic mission in the social network Facebook.
US Senator Rick Scott, in a conversation with American journalist Greta van Sustern, did not rule out the possibility of sending US troops to Ukraine. In response to a related question, he said that “it is necessary to keep all possibilities open at all times.” “I don’t think you should ever rule it out,” he added.
The reaction of the Russian ambassador
According to Antonov, Scott, in fact, called for a direct clash between the major nuclear powers. He noted that attempts by external armed intervention in Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine could lead to “unprecedented consequences” and called the slogans sounding in Washington risky and irresponsible.
Anti-Russian rhetoric in the United States has reached the point of absurdity. The feeling is that the local politicians are not fully aware of their statements. The slogans voiced in Washington are becoming more and more irresponsible, provocative, and most importantly, extremely risky for international security.
Antonov urged American legislators to “return to sanity and engage in dialogue, instead of parasitizing on crude Russophobia.” He also announced his readiness to meet with any American politician to discuss ways to strengthen strategic stability and recalled that Russian parliamentarians confirmed their openness to contacts with their US counterparts. “We need a direct and honest conversation,” the Russian ambassador summed up.

Troops and weapons
Despite Scott’s statement, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said that US President Joe Biden would not send national troops to Ukraine to fight Russia. The American leader himself in his address also said that the country’s troops do not participate and will not participate in an armed conflict with Russia in Ukraine.
At the same time, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that Washington would continue to provide Ukraine with assistance “to protect against Russia.” Jen Psaki added that the US administration is consulting with the US Congress on expanding assistance to Kiev.

Following a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday, March 5, American leader Joe Biden said that his administration, along with Congress, are preparing additional financial assistance to Kiev, as well as increasing the volume of assistance “in the field of security, humanitarian and economic spheres.”
In addition, The Wall Street Journal has learned from sources in the US administration that the US is considering the option of Poland providing Kiev with a number of MiG-29s and Su-25s in exchange for American-made fighters.
Russia’s response
Speaking of arms supplies to Ukraine from Western countries, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova warned them of the risks to international civil aviation.
The organizers of these deliveries cannot fail to realize the growing threat of these high-precision weapons falling into the hands of terrorist elements and gangs not only in Ukraine, but also in Europe as a whole.
The diplomat also accused the West of grossly ignoring a number of international agreements and negligence regarding the re-export of military products, noting that official Brussels “prefers not to raise this topic.”

Zakharova stressed that “with the suggestion of the collective West, a large-scale” spread “of the most dangerous weapons around the world begins.” According to her, a month and a half before the start of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, almost 50 military transport aircraft from different countries, including the United States and Britain, landed. She also recalled that since 2014, the United States has provided $2.7 billion worth of military assistance to Ukraine, with $650 million of them in 2021.
On February 24, Russia launched a military special operation to protect Donbass. In its course, the Russian authorities “will strive for the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine,” the head of the Russian state said. Prior to this, the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics complained to Russian President Vladimir Putin about living conditions.
