This Monday, February 28, the European countries Russia and Ukraine met to end the war that has occurred in the last five days, after the entry of Russian troops into Ukrainian territory.
After assuming the independence of the breakaway provinces of Donetsk and Lubansk, Russia declared war on Ukraine. sending military forces. The attacks have involved the civilian population and have left hundreds injured.
In favor of putting a diplomatic solution to the conflict presented, the leaders agreed to a negotiation that is taking place on the border with Belarus.
The Ukrainian government had proposed to negotiate in neutral territories such as Poland or Slovakia. However, Zelensky agreed to the meeting on the border with Belarus, near the Ukrainian exclusion zone of Chernobyl, which was seized by the Russian army a few days ago.

Negotiation proposals
What mainly afflicts the Russian government are the economic sanctions imposed by Europe and the United States.since the ruble would have had a 30% devaluation just at the beginning of the previous week.
For this reason, Russia’s request was the lifting of all economic sanctions, the unconditional surrender of the Ukrainian army and the removal of the Zelensky government, which the Russian delegation described as “neo-Nazi drug addicts”.
On the other hand, Ukraine calls for the complete withdrawal of Russian military forces from its territory and a ceasefire.
“Every hour that the conflict drags on, Ukrainian citizens and soldiers die. We have set out to reach an agreement, but it has to be in the interest of both parties,” said Vladimir Medinski, the chief Russian negotiator and adviser to Vladimir Putin.
For his part, Volodymyr Zelensky stated that he does not find positive expectations after the first meeting of negotiations.

The main obstacle
The President of Ukraine has publicly stated that he wants his country to join the European Union, a pact with which the Russian government does not agree. This union is one of the biggest limitations to the negotiation.
“Our goal is to be together with all Europeans and, most importantly, to be on an equal footing. I’m sure it’s fair. I am sure that it is possible,” Volodymyr Zelensky publicly stated.
For his part, a European official, whose identity is being protected for his safety, had a dialogue with AFP and stated that, although entry into the European Union may be important for Zelensky, nothing has yet been finalized in this regard.
“I think one of the reasons why this is important for Zelensky is that he could potentially be in some of the discussions with Russia about an exit … As for Ukraine’s application to join the EU, I think it is important not to get ahead of the facts” said the official.
For now, it is confirmed that this Monday night there will be a summit that will seek to negotiate Ukraine’s entry into the European Union. In that negotiation will be present the German chancellor, Olaf Scholz; the President of the European Council, Charles Michel; the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen and the French president, Emmanuel Macron.
