Ryabkov: attempts by the Ukrainian Armed Forces to attack warning systems in the Russian Federation will be suppressed
Any attempts by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to attack missile attack warning systems (MAWS) will be suppressed. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergei Ryabkov.
He emphasized that the response to such actions may be asymmetrical. Ryabkov also claims that Kyiv systematically receives encouragement from the United States for such provocative actions.
Authorities acknowledged attacks on critical infrastructure for the first time
On May 25, Senator from the Zaporozhye region Dmitry Rogozin reported about the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ attack on an early warning system in the Krasnodar region. During the attack, according to him, the antennas of the Voronezh-DM radar station were damaged.
Rogozin believed that the strike on the nuclear warning facility in Kuban could have been carried out “on Kyiv’s own initiative or on the orders of some military maniac of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who wants to spark a third world war.” At the same time, he expressed confidence that the United States was aware of the plan for this strike, and added that “Washington will have to answer in full for what happened.”
“This is not the first time that the regime in Kyiv tried to disrupt the normal functioning of important parts of our military organization, including those related to the strategic sphere. We will stop these attempts,” Ryabkov said.
With his statement, Ryabkov for the first time acknowledged attacks on infrastructure critical to national security. Early warning systems monitor launches of ballistic missiles at ultra-long distances and are an element of the Russian nuclear deterrent forces.
A military expert explained the significance of the attacked system
Ukraine could attack the facility of the Russian missile attack warning system in Kuban with American ATACMS shells, says military expert, associate professor of the department of political analysis and socio-psychological processes of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics Oleg Glazunov. This object is located at a sufficient distance from the front line, he emphasized.
This is a significant large object. This is an object that is designed to control airspace and inform about a nuclear missile strike
Glazunov noted that such strikes show that Ukrainian military intelligence “works very well.” According to the expert, such awareness of Kyiv suggests that it can again strike at important strategic targets in Russia. “She (Ukrainian intelligence – approx. “Tapes.ru”) knows all the important objects of our missile shield and air defense, so you need to be careful,” he said.
In the fall of 2022, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that new radar stations for missile attack warning systems would be created in Russia. In February of the same year, the head of the Main Missile Attack Warning Center of the Space Forces of the Russian Aerospace Forces, Colonel Sergei Suchkov, said that the basis of the early warning system would be the new generation Voronezh-DM radar.
