Russia apparently also used combat drones in the attack on Kyiv. Fragments of debris show that these were probably also provided with retaliatory messages to Ukraine.
Kyiv – The Ukraine war with Russia may have entered another new phase in the past week. Since October 10, Russia has been increasingly attacking Ukrainian metropolises across the country. The main target of the Russian armed forces is the capital Kyiv, but the metropolises of Kharkiv, Dnipro and Schytomyr are also repeatedly targeted by Moscow.
Ukraine war: Russian drones labeled with message – “For Belgorod”
In addition to missiles, Russia is apparently also increasingly using Shahed-136 combat drones. The drones, which the Russian regime apparently received from Iran, can travel great distances and trigger enormous explosions on impact. On Monday (October 17), various images and videos were found on social networks that are supposed to prove the impact of such kamikaze drones. However, the Kremlin has only acknowledged rocket attacks on Ukraine. The EU therefore announced that it would look for evidence of drone deliveries from Iran.
The Russian military could also have used the wave of attacks on Monday to retaliate for the attacks on the Russian border region of Belgorod. Russian forces wrote messages on the drones before shooting them down. The Reuters news agency first reported on the captions. Images released by the AFP news agency also show a labeled wreckage of an alleged drone. The inscription “For Belgorod, for Luch” can be read on it. “Luch” is apparently the name of a thermal power plant in Belgorod that was hit in the alleged attacks.
Drone attack on Kyiv: debris shows cynical messages – not the first incident of this kind
It would not be the first incident of this kind in the ongoing Ukraine war. There have also been reports in the past of Russian forces labeling their missiles with messages before launching them. For example, the cynical inscription “For the children” was discovered on the remains of a rocket fired at the Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk in April. This is evidenced by recordings published by the dpa. Moscow rejected the allegations at the time, pointing out that the Russian military would not use the type of missile in question. The claim cannot currently be independently verified.
In the past few days, Russia has repeatedly accused Ukraine of shelling the city of Belgorod near the common border. However, Kyiv has so far denied the attacks. However, retaliation could be just one of several motives behind the alleged drone strikes on Ukraine. As the British Ministry of Defense reported on Tuesday, the Russian military leadership is primarily aiming for an attack on Ukraine’s energy supply. (fd)
