Russian forces attacked between 05:00 and 07:00 this Thursday morning “factories and critical infrastructure” in the city of Dnipro, in central Ukraine, and used an intercontinental ballistic missile, another aeroballistic missile Kh-47M2 Kinzhal and seven Kh-101 cruise missiles, as reported by the Ukrainian Air Force.
Ukrainian defenses have shot down six of the seven cruise missiles, but have been unable to intercept the intercontinental ballistic missile or the Kinzhal, which are two of the most sophisticated missiles in the Russian arsenal. However, according to the Ukrainian Air Force, the unshot missiles have not caused “substantial” damage.
Previously, the authorities of the Dnipropetrovsk region, of which Dnipro is the capital, had reported a massive attack against the oblast in which damage was caused to “an industrial infrastructure” in the city.
The attack on Dnipro comes after increased tension over the West’s authorization for Ukraine to use its weapons in attacks against Russian territory, which kyiv has not hesitated to use.
The US Embassy reopens
Amid the escalation, the United States, Spain, Italy and Greece closed their embassies in kyiv on Wednesday over fears of a massive Russian attack on Ukrainian territory.
However, the US Embassy is operating normally again this Thursday: “The US embassy in kyiv has resumed its services,” wrote the US ambassador in the Ukrainian capital, Bridget Brink. The diplomat has asked her citizens residing in Ukraine to remain vigilant and go to shelters if they are warned of air attacks.
