After the third place in qualifying in the last round in Sochi, then ended with the conquest of the tenth and last place valid for the points zone, George Russell and Williams they have not replicated the magic of the last races in Istanbul; the Briton and his teammate Nicholas Latifi did not manage to realize the good result obtained yesterday in Q2, slipping into the underworld of the standings with a 15th and 17th place.
A performance therefore to be forgotten for the Grove team, never seriously candidate to enter the points even after the pit stop of both drivers. A speech that is all the more true for the Canadian Latifi, author of a spin in the initial stages of the race that has definitely compromised his every attempt to climb. The North American expressed his disappointment after the Turkish Grand Prix in this way: “My race was characterized by an error during the first lap – he analyzed – which pushed me to the back of the group without being able to regain ground. Among other things, I also lost precious time in trying to overtake the two Haas of Schumacher and Mazepin. In any case, it was my first GP completely in the wet, and it was all in all a good experience. Obviously it’s not the result I wanted, but our pace was still good, albeit at times. I tried to reduce the distance from the riders in front of me, but in these conditions you have to be careful not to overdo it. This is what I learned today – he added – and there are positive aspects to take into consideration, even if it is frustrating not to have translated them into a satisfactory outcome ”.
Even more disappointed than the Canadian is undoubtedly George Russell, who did not like his performance on the Istanbul circuit: “Today was by no means an easy race – underlined the future Mercedes driver – for the first 10 laps I felt everything under control, but since the intermediates began to wear out it was more and more difficult. The conditions were unique: even if the trajectory was gradually drying up, it was still risky to switch to slicks due to the clouds and temperatures, which did not help with a quick tire change. From today we can still gain experience – finished – even if we didn’t have the pace we had hoped for on the eve, but it was difficult for everyone to manage the car ”.
