The epidemiological situation in the Russian Federation remains manageable and stable; in the first week of 2024, a decrease in the number of cases of influenza and ARVI was recorded by 51.4% compared to the last week of 2023. Rospotrebnadzor reported this on January 9.
The total number of registered cases of influenza and ARVI is more than 527 thousand. Moreover, in 46 regions the incidence rate is higher than the national average, the department indicated.
“In the first week of 2024, 24 thousand cases of COVID-19 were detected, which is 56.4% lower than the previous one. The incidence rate is 16.44 per 100 thousand population. There are no significant changes in the structure of circulating strains; the Omicron genovariant remains predominant in circulation,” says the Rospotrebnadzor Telegram channel.
It is noted that influenza viruses still predominate in almost all regions – 68%. As for coronavirus, the decline in incidence in Russia has continued for the fourth week.
Prior to this, on December 20, the Moscow Department of Health reported that the capital was currently not experiencing a significant increase in hospitalizations for ARVI and coronavirus. The department noted that the number of doctors’ home calls corresponds to the epidemiological season, does not exceed the same period last year and is significantly lower than at the peak of the coronavirus.
On December 13, Rospotrebnadzor also reported that the incidence of influenza and ARVI corresponds to seasonal norms. However, the department recommended that Moscow residents use masks in public places, as well as thoroughly sanitize their hands and rinse their noses after visiting public places.
