Romania’s Ministry of Health has asked the European Union (EU) for emergency assistance in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. About it informs Politico.
The Romanian Ministry of Health initiated the activation of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, which provides assistance to member states in emergency situations. According to the publication, Bucharest has requested from the association the necessary amount of medicines to treat 40 thousand patients with COVID-19.
Romania is the second EU country with the lowest number of people vaccinated against coronavirus. Thus, only 33 percent of the country’s residents received at least one dose of the drug. European Commissioner for Crisis Situations Janez Lenarcic said that the union will support Romania and help her in difficult times.
On October 1, it was reported that a major fire occurred in the intensive care unit of a hospital for patients with COVID-19 in the Romanian city of Constanta. Nine people became victims of the fire. Due to the rapid spread of fire, some of the victims had to jump out of the windows of the lower floors of the hospital.
