In February, a 33-year-old contacted and kidnapped a 13-year-old she met on Roblox.
A thirteen-year-old girl was found in the US state of Georgia after being kidnapped by a 33-year-old she met through Roblox. Howard Graham, the kidnapper’s name, was arrested by Clayton County police on March 1.
On February 18, Graham allegedly met the victim on Roblox, and after only two days he would convince her to leave her home in Topeka, Kansas, where he came to pick her up, then take her to his home some 1,500 miles away.
On February 24, the girl would contact her mother via Roblox by sending her the address of a “Dollar store” where she was taken. Graham was arrested while at work, on charges of sex trafficking, kidnapping and rape.
District Captain John Ivey said in an interview on the matter, “We are truly lucky to have found her still alive. I would like people to pay more attention to what their children do: predators hunt for children “
Roblox has a very large audience, estimated on 54.7 million of active users per day, whose very large part is made up of very young people. There have already been various investigations that have deemed Roblox a platform unsuitable for so many minors, given the ease of finding explicit material, but also malicious scams.
Speaking to the BBC, a spokesperson for the Roblox Corporation said the company is “deeply downcast” from what happened, and that “even if we have not been contacted by the authorities in this specific case, we always collaborate with requests for maintaining the order and immediately report any suspicious behavior to those in charge“.
