Rimac customers are eager to get their hands on their new one Nevera. The electric supercar developed by the Croatian carmaker has been the protagonist of several delays in recent months, but now the light at the end of the tunnel is finally visible and a sort of deadline for the first deliveries has been set. Mate Rimac, the CEO of the Bugatti-Rimac alliance, thought about it: “Production has been delayed because it is a super complex project, but I can say that the customers’ first cars are already on the assembly lines. We will deliver the first units of the Nevera in the next two months“.
Rimac, interviewed on Autonews, explained how it was there shortage of microchips and semiconductors to cause the delays of the new Nevera. A crisis that has brought the entire automotive sector to its knees, and therefore has not spared even the Croatian brand: “Low parts availability was the main cause of these delays. People may be wondering why there is a problem with a car with such a low volume. And this problem is that we make a lot of parts ourselves, including all of the car electronics, considering that both the hardware and the software are ours. We have to source thousands and thousands of electronic components for each carand this is proving to be a challenge due to the lack of chips ”.
The number one of Bugatti-Rimac wanted to clarify how it is also from an economic point of view effort fielded by the company has been huge to make up for the lack of vital components such as microchips. “A component that is perhaps worth 1 dollar, costs us perhaps 10, 20 or 50 dollars, in some cases even 100 dollars, which we pay only for avoid interrupting production. It was a great challenge. We had to change some designs and some parts of the cars just because we couldn’t get the necessary chips and processors ”.
