Le Mans, Quartararo gives a gift to the fans
For the second time this season Fabio Quartararo he qualified directly to Q2: at Le Mans the “host” pulled out a great lap, driving above the limits of a Yamaha that was still bringing the basic version of the M1 to the track, and not the updates tested in Jerez .
Not even the Frenchman, tenth at the end of the tests, knows how he managed to qualify: with a bit of luck, of course, just think of Enea Bastianini’s final fall and Marc Marquez’s mistake, but also with a lot of quality, the right choice of tires and the support of the home crowd.
Quartararo’s words
“I pushed hard, the window we have available to make the bike work that way is really small. I think we made a great choice with the hard front tire. When I did the first time attack, I was already in eighth place, so I had to push even harder and I improved. More than Q2, the positive fact is that we are less than two tenths from third place: but I really don’t know how he did that ride“, said the Frenchman after the tests. “Unfortunately there is nothing new yet, because we ride with the standard bike and we have to take a step forward, especially with regards to grip, which remains our main problem. Not only in terms of traction, but also and above all when entering corners: this morning with the medium tire it was a nightmare”.
Rins’ words
“It didn’t go bad“, added teammate Alex Rins, today 14th. “We worked with a different tire strategy compared to previous GPs. This morning, after using the medium tyre, we switched straight to the soft to see if we were able to do laps and laps with this tire during practice, and it wasn’t bad. Certainly, given the work on the tyres, the lap time was not the best it could have been. But we are progressing well. That said, we have some things to work on: we have some spin and the traction is quite low. But in the end we are not that far from the top compared to other circuits in terms of seconds, and we still have room to improve“.
