Renault published the company results updated to the first half of 2022, and one figure immediately catches the eye: one third of the cars sold by Losanga, in Europe, are fitted with an engine E-Tech. In total 36% of sales are electric or hybrid cars (combined). This is significant because it can be read in two very different ways. Apparently, a third of the hybrid or electric mix shows that there is interest in these types of cars; on the other hand, considering that Renault has several price options to its advantage on the various markets, the contribution of cars exclusively with traditional engines still appears high (64%). Within the next three years, Renault is expected to reverse these percentages to confirm its goals.
The E-Tech range (electric and hybrid powertrains) represents 36% of vehicle sales to Renault individuals in Europe in the first half of 2022, compared to 26% in the first half of 2021, while the market average is still below the 30%. It could improve in the future: the new Megane E-Tech Electric has reached a sizeable number of orders, over 20,000 units according to Renault, with the majority of sales in the top-of-the-range versions. Full Hybrid (HEV) technology is in full development, with 59,000 units, + 87% compared to the first half of 2021. This technology has been successfully adopted on the main Renault models, with a mix of 22% on Clio, 25% on Captur and 59% on Arkana, while should represent the heart of the range for Austral (pre-orders of which have been opened).
World sales drop to 716,720 units (-16.5% compared to the first half of 2021) and there is also a small reduction in market share of 4.0% (-0.5 points compared to the first half of 2021) . In Europe, Renault recorded a market share of 6.4% (-0.6 points compared to the first half of 2021) with 414,515 units. In the first half of 2022, sales outside Europe represent 42.2% (excluding Russia). In Turkey, today the Group’s 3rd market after France and Brazil, sales increased by 20% compared to the first half of 2021, while the market share increased by 3.4 points in the same period, thanks in particular to the success of Clio. Italy is the sixth market for Renault, after Germany and India.
