Renault has decided to invest inhydrogen in the segment of commercial vehicles and since 2021 it has launched the HYVIA project with Plug Powerone of the world leaders in hydrogen solutions, with over 20 years of experience in electrolyzers and has already developed a network of over 100 stations capable of distributing more than 40 tons of hydrogen per day.
HY ”stands for hydrogen and“ VIA ”stands for street and provides electrolysers, mobile storage stations and from the end of 2021 hydrogen charging stations, assembled in Flins, in France. Hydrogen charging stations can be bought or rented.
Features of Renault Master HYVIA hydrogen vans
Renault HYVIA hydrogen vehicles are designed with architecture “Dual power”: double energy, electric and hydrogen. Autonomy reaches i 500 km: 100 km of autonomy obtained thanks to theelectric energy and the rest thanks tohydrogen.
All vehicles are equipped with 33 kWh battery, 30 kW fuel cell and tanks with a capacity 3 to 7 kg of hydrogendepending on the versions.
The fuel cell system includes the cells and all subsystems necessary for proper operation: power supply e regulation of air and hydrogengas humidification and cooling.
Renault Master hydrogen van, features and range
The first prototype of a hydrogen van is the Master Van H2-TECH. This is a great van for the transport of goods and parcelswith a loading volume of 12 m3 and autonomy up to 500 kmwhich will be available in 2022.
It meets the needs of companies, large customers, fleets and local authorities. Today, hydrogen mobility is particularly suitable for light commercial vehicles, as it allows to increase the range for high loads and intensive use.
Master Van H2-TECH is equipped with 30 kW fuel cell, 33 kWh battery and tanks for a total capacity of 6 kg of hydrogen (4 tanks of 1.5 kg).
Master Van is manufactured in France, in the plant of Batilly. The integration of the electricity and hydrogen systems is carried out by PVI, a subsidiary of the Renault Group, a Gretz-Armainvilliers.
The electric motor is produced in the factory of Cléon. The assembly activities of the fuel cells will begin by the end of the year at the plant in Flins. The hydrogen tanks will be supplied to France by Faurecia.
Renault Master hydrogen cab chassis
In Renault’s range of hydrogen commercial vehicles there is also a Chassis with cabin it’s a City Bus. The Renault Master H2-TECH Chassis Cab can count on approx 250 km of autonomy hydrogen and is also available in a van version with a large volume of 19 m³suitable for the transport of goods and packages up to 1,000 kg payload.
Master Chassis Cabin H2-TECH is equipped with 30 kW fuel cell, battery from 33 kWh and tanks capable of holding up to 3 kg of hydrogen (2 tanks of 1.5 kg) at 700 bar.
Renault hydrogen minibus, features and range
The hydrogen Master range also includes H2-TECH City Buses with 300 km of autonomy. It is a minibus that can carry up to 15 passengers (9 seated, 6 standing) with safe and easy access for people with reduced mobility.
From a technical point of view it is equipped with 30 kW fuel cell, 33 kWh battery and a tank capable of holding 4.5 kg of hydrogen at 350 bar.
Hydrogen filling station
The HYVIA Hydrogen Charging Station allows you to recharge quickly 5 minutes. The operation of the station is simple, as the hydrogen is obtained on site for electrolysis of water or powered by a trailer. The system compresses hydrogen for storage, before refueling the vehicle.
Hydrogen Charging Stations are available for sale or rental. Assembly will begin in France, at the Flins plant, by the end of the year.
Renault HYVIA hydrogen
Renault’s HYVIA ecosystem includes the production of green hydrogen (electrolysers) and its distribution (Hydrogen Charging Stations), as well as a range of fuel cell light commercial vehicles (Van, Chassis Cab and Citybus), which complement the electric commercial vehicles.
“To meet the challenges of hydrogen mobility, it is necessary to propose fuel cell vehicles for all intensive uses, but also to consider the ecosystem as a whole. – the words of David Holderbach, President of HYVIA.
HYVIA offers turnkey mobility solutions with the production, storage and distribution of green hydrogen as well as a wide range of commercial vehicles. Solutions that meet the new needs of companies, large customers, fleets and public bodies, to undertake the path of energy transition together “.
Hydrogen Renault at the World Hydrogen Summit in Rotterdam
HYVIA, the joint venture between the Renault Group and Plug Power dedicated to hydrogen mobility, participates for the first time in the World Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition 2022 in Rotterdam, international appointment dedicated to hydrogen and scheduled from 9 to 11 May 2022.
Renault presents the van at the event Master Van H2-TECHequipped with a 30 kWbattery from 33 kWh and tanks capable of holding 6 kg of hydrogen (4 tanks of 1.5 kg).
