Colombian families cannot return the bodies of relatives who fought on the side of the Ukrainian Armed Forces
Mercenaries from Colombia are sent to fight in Ukraine on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the hope of big money, their relatives said in a conversation with RIA News. They also reported that after the mercenaries died, they could not take their bodies.
So, according to the cousin of the former professional soldier of the Colombian army, Harrison Astudillo, the main motivation for many is money due to the poor economic situation in Colombia. The relative also noted that the family has still not been able to retrieve the body of the deceased from Ukraine.
The wife of one of the mercenaries named Laura said that her husband was blinded by a salary of 5 thousand dollars a month. She added that she was able to obtain the body of a relative. “Many families have their relatives listed as missing,” the woman said.
Earlier, American mercenary Ian Burdett died in Ukraine. He served in The Chosen unit of the 59th Infantry Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which was founded in June 2023 by retired US military officer Ryan O'Leary.
