The price at the pump will fall by 17.5 euro cents per liter of diesel or petrol as a result of the measure. Earlier this month, the Dutch Association of Tank Stations (BETA) stated that motorists did not yet refuel en masse in cheaper Belgium, despite the rapid rise in petrol prices. The industry feared that this would happen if Belgium decided to lower fuel prices.
The Netherlands will lower the excise duties on petrol and diesel from 1 April by 17 and 11 cents respectively. Petrol drivers save an average of 9.42 euros on a full tank due to the excise tax measure, while diesel drivers save 6.04 euros, the Ministry of Finance calculated.
