Red Bull has taken its countermeasures to control the temperatures of the Honda power unit after the heat increase in Austin yesterday. The Milton Keynes team, compared to the free practice of the United States GP, has increased the hot air vents on the sides of the cockpit to evacuate the air from the radiators.
Yesterday in qualifying the air reached 30 degrees and the asphalt 37 degrees, so the Milton Keynes technicians intervened to prevent the reliability of the Honda engine from being put in difficulty by the increase in temperature.
The curious aspect is that the engineers have decided to intervene with an asymmetrical solution: looking at the RB16B from behind it can be seen that on the left side the vent remained identical to the one opened for Friday, while on the right side the opening was significantly expanded: improving the cooling, in fact, was considered more important than losing some aerodynamic efficiency.
In Red Bull they absolutely do not want to undermine the duration of Max Verstappen’s engine 4, aware that a retirement could have devastating effects on the world challenge with Lewis Hamilton.
