The UN Human Rights Council will create an independent commission of experts to investigate the human rights violations perpetrated by Russia in its aggression against Ukraine, there are more and more actions by non-governmental organizations around the world to condemn said invasion and the sanctions against the Kremlin by other states have repercussions on the economy of the European country. With the political tension on the surface, is it possible that the third world war will appear? Would it escalate to a nuclear war?
“Everyone knows that a third world war can only be nuclear, but I draw your attention to the fact that this is in the minds of Western politicians, not in the RussiansSergei Lavrov, Russia’s chief diplomat, said at an online press conference last Thursday.
On the contrary, last Monday, during a ceremony at the White House, the US president, Joe Biden, answered a resounding no to the question of whether Americans should be concerned about the possibility of nuclear waraccording to the media agency ‘EFE’.

But, in the event that it does occur, what should citizens do to protect themselves? We tell you.
What to do to protect yourself from a nuclear attack?
The United States Department of Homeland Security updated the information regarding the nuclear explosions in Ready, a campaign by the North American country to educate citizens about disaster prevention and emergency mitigation.
The website establishes three important phases in the reaction of the population to a possible nuclear attack: before, during and after.
The preparation
The before has a high component of preparation for a disaster or catastrophe. The main thing is to identify a possible place of refuge: it should be close to where you and your loved ones spend most of your timelike your home, and it is ideal that it be underground and that it be located in the middle of larger buildings.

Ready also stipulates that you must have an emergency supply kit to stay in the shelter for at least 24 hours: bottled water, packaged food, emergency medications, a hand-crank radio, batteries, a flashlight, personal hygiene items, and more items you may need.
The reaction
The heat and radiation from the detonation are the most imminent dangers facing a person witnessing a nuclear attack, so enter the nearest building and stay away from windows.
It’s necessary that be indoors, lying face down to protect exposed skin from heat and flying debris and to avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
On the other hand, if you are in a vehicle, safely stop and crouch inside the vehicle: “After the blast wave passes, approach the nearest best shelter location to protect yourself from possible radioactive fallout. You will have 10 minutes or more to find a suitable shelter“.
Radioactive fallout happens after the explosionso you should stay in the shelter until you are sure you can.

How can you be sure? The authorities will be reporting on possible evacuation routes, shelters and procedures to be carried out by citizens, by radio.
surveillance
After surviving the bomb impact, the biggest danger is radiation. The website recommends removing the outer layer of contaminated clothing and showering with soap and waterthis in order to eliminate traces of radiation that may have remained in parts of your hair and skin.
You should continue to avoid rubbing your hands against important parts of your face.
Pets that were outside after the fallout arrived should be gently cleaned and brushed.

Finally, remember that it is safe to eat or drink packaged items, as well as items that were inside a building. Conversely, it is not advisable to consume food or liquids that have been outdoors. They may have been contaminated by radioactive fallout.
