Reader opinion The Finnish National Day should be added to the calendar

It would be important for us to be able to celebrate the Constitution and Democracy together with the other Nordic countries in the middle of summer.

Democracy that is, democracy is considered an ideal political system and is the basis of the Nordic rule of law. The Nordic countries have a very strong democracy based on each country’s constitution. Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Iceland are celebrating national days, the ultimate purpose of which is to celebrate and celebrate the adoption of each country’s constitution.

In others For historical reasons, Independence Day is not celebrated in the Nordic countries. Finland has had to fight for its independence. On Independence Day, we celebrate our independence and honor the veterans of our wars. The day is very precious and is intended to honor the sacrifices that our grandparents had to make to guarantee a democratic and free country for future generations. It is good that this day will continue to be valuable and traditional for future generations.

The democracy and freedom guaranteed by the Constitution is almost a matter of course for the Nordic people. We are one of the Nordic countries, but we do not yet have our own national day. For this reason, it would be important that the Day of Democracy, ie July 17, when the form of government in the Republic of Finland was confirmed, be declared an official holiday, and this day should also be marked on official calendars.

The other Nordic countries celebrate their national days in the summer months. The form of government in the Republic of Finland was confirmed in July, so on 17 July. would also be very suitable for an official holiday. In that case, we could celebrate the Finnish Constitution, democracy, Europe’s first women’s suffrage and equality together in the summer air.

The Nordic countries must be the most sustainable and integrated region in the world by 2030. For this reason, it would also be important for us in Finland to be able to celebrate the Constitution and Democracy together with the other Nordic countries in the middle of summer.
