Tuomas Saloniemi (HS Opinion 12.11.) and Marko Lysmä (HS Opinion 23.11.) wrote about the investigation and facilitation of bicycle theft. Bicycle owners are getting into unreasonable racing gear with thieves. Lock manufacturers make better and more expensive locks while thieves use more efficient and better battery-powered metal cutting tools.
Theft prevention cannot remain the sole responsibility of the individual bike owner. As long as stolen bikes are purchased, they will go on sale. The buyer of the stolen goods is responsible for reducing theft.
