Razgatlioglu: The Man to Beat
Everything is ready for the return of Superbike in Portugal two weeks after the last Round in Czech Republic, with the world championship leader Toprak Razgatlioglu who presents himself as the driver to beat. At the same time, in addition to the goal of strengthening his world championship lead, there is an extra motivation for the #54 to complete the weekend in the best possible way also on the Portimão circuit.
One step away from the record
In fact, if he were to cross the finish line first in Race 1, Razgatlioglu would enter the history of Superbike: having won ten consecutive races from Race 2 in Assen to Race 2 in Most, the 27-year-old would equal the record of 11 consecutive victories belonging to Jonathan Rea and Alvaro Bautista, 40 points behind his teammate Nicolà Bulega and 104 behind Razgatlioglu.
The pre-Portugal charge
Razgatlioglu, who has achieved a total of three victories on the Portimão circuit during his career, is now full of energy and motivation to add his name to the roll of honour of this round: “I can’t wait to go back to Portimão, because it’s one of my favourite circuits ever and I really like it. It’s like a rollercoaster. – he declared on the eve of the weekend – I’m usually very strong there, but now with BMW we’re on another level! But we’ll have to wait and see this weekend. I always try to give more than 100%, because We need to get three wins here too. I am happy and the team is very happy. Everyone is working very hard and now we will see what we can achieve in Portimão”.
Van der Mark’s Dream
There is therefore a positive atmosphere in BMW, and further confirmation could also come from Michael van der Markwho hopes to share the podium with his teammate for the first time this season: “I can’t wait to go to Portimão – added the Dutchman – It’s one of my favourite circuits and, especially after finishing the weekend so well in Most, I can’t wait to get back on track in Portugal. We know that the base of the bike is really goodnow we just have to prepare for the races. It will be a different weekend, with a different program. It will be very interesting to race so late and I am looking forward to it. My hope and dream is to finish on the podium, together with Toprak. Two BMWs on the podium: that’s my dream and my goal“.
