The growth of Liga MX in recent years is undoubted. Over the past decade, some teams have grown and improved their rosters considerably. However, it is difficult to analyze what is the place of these teams in the order of world football. In what position are Mexican soccer teams compared to those of the best leagues in the world? This is a question that several fans have asked and there seems to be an answer.
According to a ranking prepared by the portal FiveThirtyEight, which specializes in data-driven economic, political and sports analysis, only two Mexican clubs are among the top 100 best teams in the world. In the list published by this site, Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Liverpool are in the first three places.
Rayados de Monterrey and América are the only Liga MX teams that are among the top 100 teams. These teams occupy position 97 and 98 respectively. The third best-positioned team is Tigres de la UANL, in 126th place.
Surprisingly, Atlas de Guadalajara ranks 134th. Cruz Azul and León are ranked 136 and 151 respectively. The place of Chivas de Guadalajara, one of the four greats of Mexican soccer, appears in position 212. Pumas, another of the historical ones of Liga MX, is in position 261.
Toluca, one of the most winning teams in recent years, is in 192nd place and Santos Laguna in 168th place. Mazatlán FC is the worst placed Mexican team in the FiveThirtyEight ranking, as it occupies 376th place.
This list is made up of the statistics of each team and is updated with each game. The last update of the Global Club Soccer Rankings was made on October 11.
