This Monday, Rafael Nadal played against Alexander Zverev the first round at Roland Garros, a tournament of which he is the biggest winner in history. The Spaniard was defeated in three sets and, at the farewell events, he spoke to the public, among other things, about his participation in the Olympics.
In the midst of the emotional farewell to this edition, Nadal said that he felt better than two months ago but that he could not guarantee that he would return to the tournament in the coming years. However, he commented that he would return to that same court to play the Olympic Games.
“I hope to be back on this field for the Olympic Games, which motivates me”mentioned the tennis player amidst an ovation from the public who want to see him again on the Parisian clay.
In addition, he also referred to his current level ahead of the Olympic event: “This will be a new opportunity and I hope to be well prepared”he assured and then talked about the emotions that the tournament, in which he debuted at the age of 18, represents for him.
Nadal would participate in the Olympic Games in the doubles category with Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard had previously confirmed his participation in the Olympics. “We can make a good couple (with Alcaraz) and aspire to beautiful things,” he declared in the Madrid Masters 1000 podcast.
Before going to Paris, the Spaniard will play Wimbledon, in London. Nadal appears as one of the participants in the tournament that he has already won twice. This competition ends shortly before the start of the Olympics and will be the preview for his participation in them.
The Olympic Games are preparing for their arrival and, after the elimination at Roland Garros, they published on their official accounts an image that portrays the tennis player’s path in that tournament.
