Duel between comrades
They are not Red Bull, but also the 'little bulls' from Racing Bulls are attracting a lot of attention to them at the start of the 2024 season. After the tests, many had considered the 'second team' of the Red Bull family as a potential contender for the points zone, if not more. The Bahrain race actually provided different answers, 'confining' for the moment the Faenza team to the medium-low of the grill.
But it was above all him who made the news disagreement between the two pilots of the team, with Yuki Tsunoda who didn't like the team order at the end of the race which required him to let his teammate take him away Daniel Ricciardo. The Japanese's reaction was vehement and after the race the two VCARB 01s came close to making sensational contact. For all these reasons it is natural that many spotlights will be focused on this garage during the Jeddah weekend.
The words of the pilots
“The first race was an opportunity for everyone, including me, to remove the 'cobwebs' – commented Daniel Ricciardo, presenting the Saudi weekend with his usual irony – in Bahrain I did some things well and others not so well. Now I can't wait for the next race. I'm happy that there's a double straight away. On Saturday evening, after the race, we did a lot of analysis, from which many positive things emerged. In the short term we will need a perfect race to finish in the points, but I believe that over the next few races we will continue to get stronger and stronger. Personally I have already raced twice in Saudi Arabia and my best result was a fifth place. It's a fantastic track, which I really like. Grip is quite high for a street circuit. It's a real track, very physical”.
“Before the tests there was a lot of hype around our team – declared Yuki Tsunoda – and this continued even in the preparation phase for the first race, but inside the garage we paid no attention to it. To be honest I didn't expect much from Bahrain, but in the end it went better than I thought in terms of the car's performance, especially in qualifying. The race pace was also quite good, but a few factors meant this was difficult to see from the outside – added the Japanese – our team has not only changed its name, but is new in many ways. So we have new people and new procedures we are still learning to work well together and at the same time getting to know the new car. We will now continue this process in Saudi Arabia. There will be virtually no tire degradation and we will see how the aerodynamics of the car work at very high speeds. We've seen how close the midfield is, so we know it won't be an easy job, but we're all determined to keep pushing.“. In the hope of avoiding further internal tensions.
