Hundreds of thousands of people will gather from this Wednesday before the coffin of the Queen isabel IIwho died Thursday at the age of 96, before the state funeral and burial scheduled for September 19. Below is the program of events announced by Buckingham Palace and the British government
Wednesday, September 14
After a prayer session in the presence of the King, the Queen Consort and members of the royal family, the coffin will be carried in procession through the center of London from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Palace starting at 2:22 p.m. (1:22 p.m. GMT).
The famous bell Big Ben will chime every sixty seconds and 38 cannon salvos will be fired from Hyde Park, one per minute. Carlos III, together with his brothers Ana, Andrés and Eduardo, as well as his sons Guillermo and Enrique, will accompany the queen’s coffin on foot.
The wives of the latter Catherine and Meghan, and the queen consort Camila will be behind in a car. The remains of the oldest monarch in the United Kingdom will arrive at 3:00 p.m. (2:00 p.m. GMT) westminster hall, where they will remain until September 19 in a purple catafalque. Britons will be able to pay their respects uninterruptedly from 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday until 6:30 a.m. on Monday. The arrival of thousands of people and kilometers of queues are expected, day and night.
Friday, September 16
The King and Queen consort travel to Wales, where they will receive condolences from the authorities and participate in a ceremony at Llandaff Cathedralthus completing their tour of the four nations of the United Kingdom.
Sunday, September 18
At 8:00 p.m. (7:00 p.m. GMT) a minute of silence will be observed in the United Kingdom to honor the life of the queen and her services to the country.
Monday, September 19
The coffin of Elizabeth II will move to the westminster abbey for a state funeral starting at 11:00 a.m. (10:00 GMT), which is expected to be followed by millions of people around the world.
Dignitaries from all over the world have been invited to the funeral, including presidents such as the American, Joe Biden, and the Brazilian, Jair Bolsonaro, and monarchs such as the Spanish, Felipe VI, or the Japanese, Naruhito.
After the funeral, the coffin will be transferred to Windsor, where a church service will take place before a private burial in St George’s Chapel. The queen will be buried in that chapel along with her husband, Prince Philip. There are also the ashes of her sister, Princess Margaret, and the remains of her mother Elizabeth and her father, King George V.
