The law on foreign agents does not prohibit having an opinion on any issue, but is associated with obtaining financial support from abroad in the course of internal political activities, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a plenary session at the XVIII annual meeting of the Valdai Club. The correspondent of “Lenta.ru” informs about it.
In this way, the head of state answered the question of the editor-in-chief of Novaya Gazeta, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Dmitry Muratov, about the vague criteria in the relevant law.
“The law does not prohibit foreign agents from continuing to operate, just their financing should be colored,” the head of state noted, while promising to look at the vague criteria of the law on foreign agents in Russia.
Earlier it was reported that the government will make concessions to some foreign-funded media outlets. At present, representatives of foreign media that operate in Russia with the permission of the Russian Foreign Ministry, as well as media created within the framework of international treaties of Russia, may not report to the RKN. The Ministry of Figures in the amendments proposes to add to this list the media funded by subsidies from the budget, and those founded by the federal government bodies of Russia.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, answering a question from journalists about the possibility of repealing the law on foreign agents, noted that such initiatives are radical, but the law enforcement practice can be discussed.
