Sony is preparing to launch a Pro version of its PlayStation 5 console, note with the code name Trinity, which is expected to hit the market later this year. Recently, details regarding the technical specifications of the PS5 Pro model have been leaked, e.g The Verge obtained the full list of specifications from what are described as Sony internal sources. The PS 5 Pro will feature a more powerful GPU and a slightly faster CPU. Sony's changes aim to make the PS5 Pro significantly more capable of handling ray tracing, as well as achieving higher resolutions and frame rates in certain titles. Sony is also incentivizing developers to use advanced graphics features, with the ability to label compatible games as “PS5 Pro Enhanced.”
According to internal documents, the PS5 Pro's graphics card is expected to be “around 45% faster” than the standard PlayStation 5. The GPU will be larger and use faster system memory to improve ray tracing in games. Additionally, the console will adopt a “more powerful ray tracing architecture”, with up to three times better performance than the regular PS5. Despite the introduction of the new model, Sony will continue to sell the standard version of the PS5. It is expected that developers will be able to support both consoles with a single game package, and existing games will be able to receive updates to improve performance.
The developers, it seems, have already come into possession of the development kits, and Sony expects that every game sent for certification from August onwards will be compatible with PS5 Pro, in view of the market launch for the Christmas holidays . As for the processor, the CPU will be the same as the standard PS5, but will operate in a new mode that increases its frequency to 3.85GHz, about 10% higher than the PS5. Sony will give developers the choice between a 3.5GHz “standard mode” and 3.85GHz “high frequency mode”. System memory will also undergo changes: PS5 RAM runs at 448GB/s, but will be increased by 28% to 576GB/s on PS5 Pro. Games will be able to use an additional 1.2GB of system memory on the PS5 Pro, bringing the total at 13.7GB compared to the 12.5GB of the base PS5. This increase in speed and amount of memory will be useful for the new support for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, Sony's answer to Nvidia and AMD's upscaling technologies. The result will result in higher frame rates and better resolution.
