The price of the new console has generated much debate among fans and the media, and Vince Zampellaa well-known video game developer, has come out in defense of it. According to him, the cost of the console is a necessary “balance” to offer the performance that the most enthusiastic users expect. Although many consider the price to be high, he assures that, when adjusted for inflation, it is not that different from what consoles cost in the past.
The executive also compared the console’s performance to that of a $700 PC, suggesting that the console offers superior performance at that price point, justifying its cost. He also mentioned that while the initial price shock may have surprised some, it’s actually not that high considering the technical capabilities it offers.
Here’s what he said:
I mean, I think it’s expected and anything that gives us better performance for the people that really love it. To me, it’s kind of amazing. I was seeing something about it where the price… where they look is the most expensive. And it’s really not. If you go back, some of the older consoles were just as expensive and probably adjusted for inflation they were probably more. So it seemed a little bit shocking at first, but it’s actually not that bad. And if you get a $700 PC, you’re not getting the same performance that you get with it.
He acknowledged that not everyone will be able to afford it, but explained that the price makes sense given the level of quality it seeks to offer. Despite this, he admitted that, in an ideal world, it would be preferable for the console to be more accessible to a greater number of people. In short, Zampella He stressed that while cost is a relevant factor, it is a necessary sacrifice to ensure the performance that gamers expect from this new generation of consoles.

Editor’s note: If we look at it in the context of it being cheaper than a PC, it really is fair what they charge, but in the end the improvements do not justify that inflation in price in relation to the base console.
